Raising Teenage Daughters in the Age of Provative Dress and Sexism

I am raising a 14 year old daughter who is one of the sweetest, kindest kids on the planet. She will ask me sometimes if its ok if she wears a skirt that is to short for her or jeans that are to tight. I tell her no that she is a young teenager and those clothes are unacceptable. Some people say I am restricting her freedom because I refuse to allow her to dress like an adult woman. She is not an adult she is 14. I have lots of help because my daughter has two older sisters and three older brothers plus a load of cousins who also tell her "NO"
Does this upset my daughter? Not really I think she likes when I tell her "NO" because it sets limits and also gives her an excuse if she doesn't want to dress a certain way but peer pressure is very strong. She can then make me out to be the bad guy. I think that is the way it is with most teenagers. They may fight and agrue but they know in the end that you have their best interests at heart. They also will never remember the times you told them "NO" but they will thank you for setting boundries.
Television is another issue. I am amazed at how many shows on TV are either racist or sexist or both. I have one rule and that is Nothing racist or sexist on tv. I am not talking about movies like "To Kill a Mockingbird" or movies that address either sexism or racism but movies and cartoons that use sexism or racism for entertainment. I don't mind my daughter watching Avatior because it has strong female characters.
Avaitor has several strong female main characters that are not filled with sexual stereotypes. I love Kataria the main female character who is a water bender. She is respected by all the characters on the show and she is a positive character for little girls to emulate.
My daughter is more likely to gripe about TV then she is about clothes and frankly I believe the images that TV portrays are worse for her in the long run then the clothes that seek to grow our daughters up before their time.
Its time for Television to remember that half the audience is females and we are the largest buyers. We are the shoppers and we need to make sure that advertisors know we will no longer accept their sexism on TV.

Its Time to Fire David Letterman. His Sexist Attack on an 14 Year Old Daughter of Former VP Candidate.

David Letterman needs to be fired because it is time that the media is put on notice that sexism will no longer sell. David Letterman made crude remarks about Governor Sarah palin and her 14 year old daughter. It was 14 year old Willow Palin that attended the Mets game with her parents. David's claim that his joke was aimed at 18year old Bristol Palin and not Willow did not explain his actions nor excuse them.
David Letterman also said Sarah Palin looked like a slutty flight attendants. He also referred to the Governor as a crack w***e. I find myself disgusted by his remarks. This kind of talk from comedians needs to stop now.
I remember the the days when making black jokes was acceptable until people decided that it was to offensive and protested against this kind of joke and people started losing their jobs because they made jokes like this. Don Imus lost his job for a little while and now he watches what he says. David Letterman is no different then Don Imus perhaps some time off without pay would change David Letterman's perspective.
Keith O the number two sexist pig in media and the enemy to women everywhere supports David Letterman and he should also lose his job because he is also sexist. He lost the anchor chair but that isn't enough he needs to lose his income. I don't know why the pig is on Sunday Night Football but hopefully NBC will see the folly of his way. His network partner and Number one sexist Pig Chris Matthews would have probably excused Letterman's statement but he is to busy recovering from the smack down Hillary supporters gave him when they ruined his shot at becoming Senator from the State of PA. Hillary Supporters would have killed any shot he had of winning and he knew it. I guess the Hillary Supporters left him with a pain in the leg instead of the tingles he got from Obama.
NOW did put Letterman in its hall of shame but they were to slow to comment and didn't seem to do so until women complained. NOW doesn't like to defend Pro Life women and Republican women. I guess Pro Life women and Republican women are not real women according to NOW. Perhaps NOW understands now that we are sick of Pro Life and Republican women being abused and greeted with silence by NOW.

David then releases an apology and said he was really attacking 18 year old Bristol Palin who has a baby. First of all Bristol Palin is not the only teenager in America who got Pregnant yet people think its OK to insult her. She is taking care of that baby and she graduated from high school with a baby. That isn't easy.

Women and girls are facing major problems all over the world. My daughter who is 14 and not any where close to being fat got a letter in the mail with her report card that said she was at risk for being obese. This kind of thinking is hurting our girls and women.
Barack Obama and the Main Stream Media also known as the liberal press made it acceptable to insult women. Together the fraud and the pigs in the media set out to destroy the reputation of a former First Lady. Barack Obama has made the most sexist remarks I have ever heard during both the Primary and the General Election. Barack has discovered that he can be destroyed by women which is why he did not look at male candidates for the Supreme Court. He will also replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg with a woman because if he wants any chance of reelection he is going to need women.
Keith Obermann another huge sexist pig is defending David Letterman. I guess they are in the sexist pig club. Keith's partner in crime and Number one pig in the universe Chris Matthews will probably weigh in with the David is innocent but he is still reeling from the slap Hillary Supporters gave him forcing him to give up his dream of becoming the Senator from my State. He has spent the past few months kissing up to Secretary Clinton but I do not believe him.

Remember when Hillary Clinton supporters accused Chris Matthews and MS-NBC of sexism in their coverage of the Democratic primaries, as the network became the Barack Obama Channel in 2007? Matthews (and Fineman, too) actually take two shots at sexual analogies here. At first, they discuss Palin as a one-night stand from a bar, and then they switch to the mail-order bride meme. If Matthews had talked about Hillary in such terms … well, actually, he did, which is why Hillary’s supporters objected so much during the campaign. It’s not exactly a classy moment here, either, considering Palin’s status as Governor of Alaska. Just what does a woman have to do to get Matthews to stop thinking of her as a sex object, anyway? Marry him?
No one will be surprised to see Matthews do this, but having Newsweek’s Howard Fineman busting a gut and joining in the fun may be a bit of a surprise. I thought Fineman had a little more class than this.

This furor over the Obama speechwriter who photographed himself and one of his immature buddies groping a cut out cardboard Hillary Clinton and his buddy was holding a beer to her lips. The media ignored this but The New Agenda called attention to this and now the media are covering it but a lot of males seem to think this is no big deal. James Carville told us to get over it and worry about domestic violence and getting equal pay and so on and so forth. This attitude is ridiculous and wrong.
I remember last year and the uproar over the Jena Six and the nooses that hung from that tree. I remember people saying it wasn't a big deal because after all no one got hung. What is the difference between the nooses that hung from the tree and the cutout copy of a woman being groped by an immature young man? Nothing they are both wrong. To African Americans the noose represents millions of black men, women and children who were lynched. To women the groping represent billions of women who have been raped over the years. What about sexual harassment? This incident was Sexual Harassment. Where is Obama calling this man on the carpet for taking part in this offensive act. Where are the women's groups protesting this very sexist man and demanding his job. He should be fired for this because it is sexual harassment. It is offensive and its sexist.
Cambell Brown called it sexist first of all she is a silent sexist and never once stood up for Hillary and Sarah and what does she do she turns around and blames the victim. She blamed it on Hillary. Cambell has lost all credibility with me as well with the media as a whole.
Women need to start supporting each other if they ever want to break that glass ceiling.

CHRIS MATTHEWS NEEDS TO BE FIRED FOR SEXISM.

Chris Matthews is guilty of some of the most intense sexism that I have ever seen. He has been horrible to Hillary for years constintly making sexist remarks about her. He made several remarks about her having won a Senate Seat because her husband cheated on her.
This man showed how unprofessional he is by being so biased on behalf of Barack Obama who of course made him get a thrill run up his leg. This was so blatent. He also ignored the fact that women have never broken that glass ceiling yet Barack's candidacy was historic. This was very sexist. He also allowed Barack to get away with being one of the most sexist campaigns in history.
Chris wants to become the Senator from my state. I wonder if he thinks the women will forgive him for all the sexism he showed this election year but women are not going to forget. I would say that women are saving some of his most sexist moments to play back in two years.
The media is full of bad seeds but one of the worst is Chris Matthews.
This blog is going to act as a watchdog for the media and lead the charge that these sexist people will lose their jobs if they continue using sexism.
Women are the majority of consumers in this Country and most of your networks are corporations which only care about the bottom line. Right now nothing will be done because sexism sells. Women need to stop buying and making sure the networks and advertisors know that women are no longer buying sexism and a boycott would occur if they continued to allow these sexist journalists to get away with it.

This afternoon my 17 year old daughter and I were discussing sexism in both music videos and in the media. My daughter is a 17 year old African American young woman who supported Hillary Clinton during the Primary. She and I watched as the media and the Democrats tore Hillary apart. Sarah entered the race and more sexism flew. Women were told to shut up and fall into line. Men openly showed their hostility.
It was OK to call Hillary a bitch or to call Sarah a cunt. Hillary supporters were called horrible names. We were told that we had to vote for one of the most sexist candidates I have ever seen because he was better for women.
I am an African American and if anyone ever told me to vote for a member of the KKK because he were better for African Americans I would be outraged. I am a woman and as a woman I do not want to be told to vote for a man whom I know is a sexist pig. I know he will be a disaster for women. How can I expect anyone who seems to hate women like Obama does to look out for the best interests of women.
I have three daughters, whom I taught that they can be and do anything they want to do and that any limits they have can be overcome.
I dutifully taught all my children how to overcome racism but I had no idea that I would need to teach my girls how to overcome sexism. I will never make that mistake again.

Bristol Palin is 5 months pregnant Sarah Palin announced to the press. To me this is such a non issue. I was a teenage mother and my son was a teenage father. When you are a teenager and you have a baby it grows you up. Bristol is planning to marry the baby's father and I wish the young couple luck.

Sarah's husband is a stay at home dad. They are fine.
The Democrats all chimed in with she doesn't have experience but Bambi doesn't either. I do not think the Democrats want to go there. Obama called her a mayor instead of Governor. She has more executive experience then all three Senators combined. She has been the only one to deal with a budget and she has managed to cut back on Alaska's dependence on the federal government. She is a maverick.
She was called a beauty queen another sexist remark because she was in a beauty contest when she was younger. Give me a break. This is sexist. It's coming from the party that is supposed to be the party for women's rights. Yes that is why they used sexism to harm the first viable woman to ever run for office. Cindy McCain is another woman who is criticized for her past drug use. I believe Obama also used drugs in his past. Do we want to go there? How about how many houses she owns? I don't care how much money she has or how many homes she owns. She has also provided medial care to the people in Africa and other third world countries. Michelle Obama needed her husband's approval to accept a job. Can you see Cindy McCain needing her husband's approval.

A female backer of Senator John McCain has bashed Howard Dean for saying that the Democratic Party is better for people of color and for women because it is hard to advance in the Republican Party if you are a person of color or a woman.
Howard Dean said that after he robbed Hillary Clinton, a woman, of her rights. He did not stand up for her like the rest of the sorry DNC. He screamed racism from the very beginning when I, an African American woman did not see racism. I certainly saw sexism. I did not see Racism directed to African American. I did see racism directed at whites. White women were called white b**ches and other offensive names yet no one spoke up for Hillary or her supporters.
I cannot believe how the Parties spin things.

This article is just another slap in the face of women. Now he wants to make women pay 54% of their money to the government. I guess that is one way to remove women from the work force. Obama is a man who is horrible for women. Women need to forget Obama and vote McCain better the devil we know then the devil we don't know. I do not trust Obama with my gender. Nope he threatens me with Roe vs Wade but he wants to tax women by taking more money then she gets. This is very sexist and must stop.
